Rick Santorum Youtube Fail

With the Republican primaries coming up the candidates are pulling out every trick possible to help their chances to win over ever last vote. There is one candidate however that just doesn’t seem to quite have a clue how to campaign using the internet effectively.

Its nothing new that Rick Santorum has had it easy managing his online reputation. If you need more information on that, I’m sure a few Google searches you’ll find out the extensive reputation problems he’s had.

Its not to be expected presidential candidates will run a cutting edge online effort, but come on people, at least hire a halfway competent marketer! Take a look at the screen shot below. What do you notice?

No, I’m not talking about the 90’s VH1 style pop ups – I’m talking about the severe incomplete nature of information about the video.

*The title: Pop Up, what does that even mean??? How the heck is anyone supposed to know that a video titled Pop Up is about Rick Santorum, his personality, and his choices in policy? It doesn’t say anything like, Rick Santorum and Family or Santorum: A Family Man You Can Trust. Nothing. Just Pop Up. Not that those are great titles but at least give it some effort.

*Video Description: Empty. Nothing. Does he not understand the video description gives the potential viewer a chance to know what they are about to watch? Or that when videos are shared often the description is visible? I should note that other videos also do not have descriptions.

*Comments: Disabled. This is an obvious red flag. Although, by the looks of dislikes its obvious that whoever has seen this video they didn’t like it and probably expressed that.

Final Thoughts: Look, for a guy whose name has been used to describe a lewd sexual act (you can research that, I’m not linking it), you would think SEO of his name would be a priority for campaign efforts. You know, tagging videos, describing them, giving them relevant names. But then again, maybe there’s something I don’t know.

Here’s my advice Rick, go to any decent college and talk with some students (you may want to pick the few that have your back) and swing them some dollars to help you beef up your game. Now, if only you would have done this sooner you might have made it on the Virginia ticket. Its really no surprise your already talking about quitting. Maybe next time you will give this a bit more thought running for a national office. Especially after you lost re-election in Pennsylvania.
